Day 1: Settle into your Port Arthur hotel early and suit up for birding, fishing, beaching or strolling. Treat the travelers to a fine seafood dinner from Beau Reve, a mansion floated to its waterside home, that’s now a showcase for Cajun-influenced gourmet dishes.
Day 2: Enjoy breakfast at your hotel. The breathtaking beauty of Shangri-La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center awaits in nearby Orange. Catch birds in their habitat and see how their massive gardens grow. Pack a lunch or visit a restaurant before your gator-seeking expedition at Airboat Rides, Inc. The more the merrier as guests whiz through dense growth of Blue Elbow Swamp and wide-open Neches River spaces. Tonight’s well-deserved hunger can be filled at Larry’s French Market, which offers a buffet, Cajun dancing and often, live music.

Faith Trail
Begin your Port Arthur stay at Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, which recreates Juan Diego’s vision of the Virgin Mary in Mexico. The 17ft bronze statue of Mary is et upon rocks that parishioners of the adjoining church brought from Mount Tepeyac, Mexico City. Daily mass is at 8 a.m.
Down the street the Vietnamese Martyr’s Catholic Church & Queen of Peace Shrine and Gardens offers another larger-than-life statue of Mary, in Hoa-Binh, or Area of Peace. Walk through gardens parishioners built in gratitude for their welcome to Port Arthur.
Have some green tea as monks guide visitors through towering bamboo and colorful lotus blossoms at Buu Mon Buddhist Temple & Lotus Gardens. Select a meal from a restaurant on our dining guide.
